I tested several mp3 players before getting my iPod, and the ones that were actually large enough (not many) didn't have very good sound reproduction. The iPod won in my tests, I had no choice but to buy one despite my Apple hate.
And the newest generation is like just over $200 for a 160GB mp3 player. Show me something that beats that and has decent sounds reproduction, and I'll be a happy man. The day I got my iPod (about 5 years old now and still running on original battery) is the day I stopped carrying CD's in my car, or really, anywhere. I'm replacing it soon with the new 160GB one (which is actually too small for my entire music library, believe it or not). I really wanted to try the Archos players, but they are getting a lot of bad reviews about locking up a lot.

Re: Apple iPad
stupid considering the battery life problems they have with the iphone/ipod already.
which is maybe the reason why muliti taking is not really supported, more cpu cycles is moe energy.
i wont ever look at anything apple does untill the fix the battery problem with thier products.
what good is all that shinny stuff, if you cant use it unplugged.

Such disappointment.
