Power supply.
So.... I have an old 250~270 W power supply from, well, at least 5 years ago. Looking around on Newegg, it becomes clear that this thing is terribly outdated, but I have not made an attempt to replace it until now.
Why?
Because with the addition of my new graphics card my current PSU overheats like a bitch, to the point it will shut my computer off if I so much as sneeze on it right. This has become an emergency, because the last time it shut off on me it made a big 'POP' when I turned it back on
I'm currently on my laptop. Nothing else on my PC is damaged(I lucked out). My question to you guys is what should I be looking for in terms of a new PSU? I've never had to replace one, so I don't know about any of the differences between one PSU and the other.
I'm looking to spend 30 bucks, as thats all I will have in the near future. Shipping doesn't matter
Thank you

Re: Power supply.
Have you had your gaming rig on since the big "pop" sound? It is running? Because that POP could have fried some other components...
If we could get the stats for your rig that would too... GPU, CPU, RAM, peripherals, etc...
$30 is gonna get a pretty weak PS BTW. But there are some good deals on Newegg from time to time; but it all needs to be selected based on what it is pushing, so post up those specs!

If this is insufficient, I will need a link to something that will give me a better profile of my computer and take the risk to run it (>_<)
Like I said earlier, the PSU was fine before I upgraded my graphics card. Now whenever I try to play anything graphically intensive the PSU makes a loud beeping noise and will shut off at a certain point

Re: Power supply.
Hey Jade, it sounds like your stock PSU does not have enough power to run all your components with your video card at max power drainage. If you run low power applications you should be ok. I'm not sure what your CPU is - you can get CPU-Z to get you the CPU family name.
CPU-Z:

Once you get that, go here:
Wattage calc:
http://www.antec.outervision.com/
and calculate your wattage requirements.
From there make your pick:

Re: Power supply.
Ya, you need at least 350 though 450+ would be safer since your likely going to end up with a lower end PS
can you do 50 bucks? I would point you to this one if you can do 50:
<a href=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371004>Antec Basiq BP500U 500W</a>
500watts will give you a bit of overhead and antec makes pretty reliable PS units.

A couple of 5 egg rated alternates for 51$:
OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W ATX12V - I have my current PSU from OCZ and it's worked great so far:

BFG Tech GS-550 550W ATX12V V2.2 - Even better ratings than the OCZ PSU:
