Kvm technology has been around for a long time, mostly in office/datacenter environments. I've got a few usb kvm switches from iogear in the office and they've worked well.

I've got an iogear KVM that works well. DVI & USB. I work from home 3 days a week and it's been a godsend.

I went over to microcenter and picked up this one and it works really nice.

I was not sure about the one with the hot key because I have Vista on one system and 7 on the other. This one came with a little button remote that works pretty nice. The price was great $22.00. Couldn't beat it.
    Thanks for your input guys.

    Holy crap! hardware KVMs FTL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Software based is the way to go! http://www.stardock.com/products/multiplicity/

I have a total of 3 monitors side by side connected to 2 computers. With Multiplicity, I seemlessly go from one side all the way to the other seemlessly. With the more expensive pro version, you can even copy and paste files between the 2 computers.

    Cybs,

That's fine and dandy if you have the ability to install software on each PC.

I don't have that luxury with my work PC. Hardware is the only option.

I have this one at work. Bought it at Microcenter about a month ago and I've been happy with it.

I had the iogear that Civil mentioned previously. It worked fine for a while and one of the usb ports suddenly stopped working recently.
