Re: Satellite Internet and FPS gaming
So let me ask this then... do the BF series games or any FPS games use VPN while playing or is that something that has to be set up manually by the user?
I keep reading and googleing about VPN's with FPS gaming and all I come up with is people trying to set their modems/network up with VPN/tunneling for gaming privately.
This seems to be the main restriction on the satellite service I am looking into, other than that considering the distance traveled for packets, I may have a fighting chance.

VPN or virtual private network is an encrypted tunnel between your PC and the VPN server. It's used to get through firewalls. We use one here at my work so that people off campus can remote desktop to PC's on campus using their computer name. It simply encrypts the info through the hops, it doesn't take the place of the jumps. There were services for a while that offered direct connections for gaming so that you could get a lower ping but they pretty much died out.
