Re: Roommate crashed it
passwords dont stop this kind of thing.
honestly the best way i can describe it is an infection for stupids. 90% of the time people get these things is from your everyday popup that says "click here to remove an infection" if you "click here" instead of closing it then your boned.
actually now that i think about it your probly talking bout the OP whos roommate f'ed him. i completely forgot the original point of this topic lol

Re: Roommate crashed it
Maybe I could just be smart and mail it to someone who has the brains to fix it haha. I think covering shipping and a fair compensation wouldn't be bad. I do not want to make the problem worse than it is. I am being forced to wait a short time until I get my new system so if anyone is capable of doing this please drop me a PM..

I am not the most computer literate person in the world in terms of fixing them.. I do not want to do more damage than has already been done to it.

Re: Roommate crashed it
If I were you I would go with bigdogs suggestion. If you have a windows CD with you just pop it in your drive. Most computers (or atleast all of mine) are set to boot from CD first so it should pop up a little thing about installing windows. If you do reinstall windows then there are 3 things that you can do
1) Reformat, This "erases" your harddrive and isnt what you want to do. DO NOT DO THIS.
2) Install a new copy, this will move everything from your profile and the old windows into a new separate folder and will install a new version of windows. You loose all your drivers and whatnot so its just like reformatting except your files stay safe. You then could remove all the files you needed with USB/crossover cable/burning and reformat.
3) What bigdog suggested, install windows where it is actualy a windows repair. It will reinstall windows over your current copy. If you do this correctly I think all your drivers stay and you should be able to hop back on and get right to gaming/working. I tried to do this and accedently did (2) still worked out fine.

Re: Roommate crashed it
I tried the reinstall (#3) and it said something was missing so it could not install. I will try again tomorrow morning to see exactly what it said that was missing. Maybe there is a way I can fix. I am not too sure, but I know one of the many people here will know what I need to do.
