Overclocking my CPU
Ok...
If I use SetFSB to OC my CPU... What are the precautions I need to take?
I'm running a ASUS G51Vx Notebook and only considered overclocking when I heard they sell a quad core version (and I have a dual core version... my thinking being if the quad core version doesn't overheat... then OCing my dual core a little shouldn't be a big deal).
My Dual Core is actually running sub-par to what they sell it for also (2.0GHz vs 2.2GHz).
If I OC'd my Dual Core... how do I measure my core temperature reliably? (Like a program that doesn't force me to alt-tab out of games to check the heat... Overlay?)
But I guess here's a list of questions I'd need answered...
- Is SetFSB a safe/good program for overclocking?
- How to I determine how much I should OC my CPU?
- Is there a program to monitor my CPU temp w/o minimizing (reliably)?
- Do you think it is safe for me to OC my Notebook?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Overclocking my CPU
Even bumping up .2 GHZ could hurt your system if cooling isn't increased. There is a reason the mfg has it at 2.0 and 2.2 max... You might try it at your own risk but the FPS difference (If that is why you are upping it) would probably be 1-2FPS on .2 MHz. I don't think any of us know enough about the machine to make an informed decision.
Just my $.02
