I just moved my computer down stairs to use the LAN line i have instead of Wifi. But i cant use the LAN port on my motherboard. It used to show up on my connections list but now its not there. The computer doesn't recognize that i plug in the LAN cable. What do i do? I'm using XP Pro.

Re: Disabled lan port.
I connected to his PC via a remote assistance tool called webex. The on-board NIC doesn't show up in device manager, we installed the NIC drivers from the manufacturers website etc. Unless it's disabled in the bios the PC isn't seeing the hardware. Best guess is that the on-board is dead. I advised he pic up a cheap Ethernet pci card and pop it into an open slot. The motherboard is so old the last bios update was for XP SP2
I asked about the parent thing because if I had children I wouldn't want them handing their phone number out and talking to strangers on the phone.

Everything works they way it used to. I didn't need to buy a cheap pci ethernet card, the software found it as disabled and I just simply asked it to turn it back on. As for the phone number info, no children were harmed in the assistance provided. I insisted that he get a promotion when I was asked for comments. I just felt like he could use a raise for his own good.
