    Most 'student' or 'home' editions of Microsoft Office products are ineligible for upgrades because they were already cheap to buy to begin with. Upgrades were intended for people who buy the pricier versions like Professional or Ultimate. And if you upgraded to 2007, you likely won't be able to upgrade to 2010. It's Microsoft's way of getting the money out of you eventually.
