Nvidia GTX 480 Takes On ATI HD 5870 In Benchmark Gauntlet
http://gizmodo.com/5487352/nvidia-gt...hmark-gauntlet
Nvidia posted a preview video of the GTX 480, their eyeball-popping, face-melting Fermi graphics card that is set for release "very, very soon." It bests ATI's HD 5870 in a benchmark, though maybe not by as much as you'd hope.
As Tom Petersen, Nvidia's director of technical management, explains in the video, the GTX 480 shines when it's tessellation time. During the tessellation-intensive parts of the benchmark, Nvidia's card outpaces ATI's considerably, though at other points they're neck and neck.
It seems obvious that Nvidia would choose something that really played to the GTX 480's strengths for its video debut, so we're hoping that the card lives up to our expectations for insane speeds when it shows up in the wild and people start running their own tests. [YouTube - Thanks Doug]
Nvidia is falling way behind and the price/performance ratio is way off. Also this benchmark is ok but does not compare to 3dmark vantage.
Remember what you should look for in a card when making a purchase.
The card should be able to hold 60fps(vsync) with 8xaa 16xaf enabled @ 1680x1050 and up. With that said the ATI cards do just that at a lower price.

eyeball-popping, face-melting, yawn inducing, 9 month late, Fermi graphics card that is set for release "very, very soon;" available for purchase in 3 months, for way to many dollars.

They are 5-25% faster than the AMD/ATI solutions, and more than 25% more expensive. Not worth it in my book. I'm not married to either side. I've used both AMD & ATI solutions through the years. I go with the best bang for the buck. Right now, that's AMD/ATI. We're still at least 2 full months away from general availability and the rumored price points ($500 for the 470 and $700 for the 480) just don't make sense.

I find that ati has alot more features inside thier cards. My first card was an 8800gts from nvidea. It ran everything fine...but considering that it cost 800 $ at the time (got it as a xmas+bday gift) it was majorly lacking in features. It couldn't play alot of games too because pixel shader 3.0 was already booming. Rainbow six vegas for example.
nvidia has gpu power...
ati...has gpu power and FEATURES
my lower end laptop card (long since sold the graphics card to Micronaut's younger brother) can run any of the new games that are out, not that well because it IS a built in one, but while ATI can't garuntee you'll be able to take a low end card and play crysis at 60 fps, they'll make damned sure you can at least play it.
800$ for nvidea 8800 gts brand new. 400$ for ATI 5700 series which has alot more power, dx11 and features
