The human eye cannot detect any differences above 60fps.

According to TomsHardware's Charts, on the FarCry2 Benchmark/Ranch Small (1680x1050, 4AA, 8AF, Very High Quality), the GTX285 does 65fps, the HD5850 does 73fps, and the HD5970 does 129fps, and I guarantee you couldn't tell the difference between them by just looking at the screen.

As long as your current card can consistently do at least 60fps, there's really no reason to upgrade.

That 129fps of the 5970 does say a bit about its longevity,though. If it can get 129fps out of a current game,it will most likely be able to handle 60fps on the next generation of games,while the others struggle.

For the 2528219842192419721978219782419712th time all you need is a card that can hold 60fps with vsync enabled at your resolution.
8xaa 16xaf max detail @ 1680x1050 would require lets say a 5770, then you move up to a higher res lets say 1920x1200 then you will need a better card to run those settings without lag.

Why?

Screen tearing happens when a LCD that is 60hz goes over 60fps.

If you have the $$ to spend on a 120hz screen then you want your vsync locked at 120fps.

The human eye doesnt see much past 30 fps and that is in the extreme, most normal folks see around 20-24fps

The difference is how smooth the video is. At 24 fps any game looks stuttery, but past 75-100fps and its perfect.

And I read somewhere about a test that airforce pilots did, and they were able to see a plane and identify it when it was only flashed for 1/200 of a sec (or something around there) on a screen.

I kind of think that having to wait this long just to get any bench marks is utter bull shit....... Nvidia I want your product but really......Put out some details..
