New computer..? HELP please
Ok heres what I got... My dad wants a new computer b/c his is dead now... He wants to stay at $400 (or pretty close to it) I'm asking yall's opinion b/c i know you can make it work with decent parts! Dont worry about the windows cd I can get that myself
And if you have time, if you would please put the link to the product so I dont get the wrong thing... With the ram.. I have DDR2 4 GB of 5300 so if your build comes with that leave it out!
Also I dont know if it matters but some motherboards dont come with dual whatever you call it for the CD roms... I think it has to do with SATA and something else .... but if your build does i have a CD R/RW and reg CD rom... as you can tell I dont know much about computer stuff HAHAHA! I hope you know what im talking about!
Thanks alot guys!

Re: New computer..? HELP please
Ok. I'm gonna thow something together for you. I just bought a great X3 Athlon and I spent about 300.
You need DDR3 memory these days. DDR2 is old and it'll be better if you just go DDR3.

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131398
HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148451
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231193
sub total: $304.96
Gonna be a solid PC, I've got similar parts and they do great. The onboard video will work well for your dad and he will not need a video card unless he games.
You'll need to downgrade if you don't have a copy of an OS... Which might be an issue and this'll need a rebuild.
Case/pwr: (I'm gonna ask for some help here.)

Re: New computer..? HELP please
Just a few tips:
The fan sits funny on the CPU, it's just a little off center regardless of which way you put it on, that's normal. You'll find that you have plenty of USB ports in the back to the point where you probably won't even need to hook up the front ports(aside from the power switch). Enjoy, it's a good build.
Also, if you even feel like unlocking the fourth core and L3 cache, you can try, but be warned you'll probably see some serious stability issues. If anyone tells you it'll be fine, it probably will not. Just letting you know it can be done but not to do it.

Re: New computer..? HELP please
Unless your Dad is a hard core gamer, why bother building?
Something like this Compag SX2802, E5300, 6gb RAM, 640gb HD, DVD/RW, $400 will do just fine -
