iPod Down!!

So i plugged my iPod, (4th gen I think, not the latest but the one before). Itunes popped up and said that a file couldnt be found and couldnt sync. I pressed the ok button (only one) and looked down at my ipod. It is now stuck on the sync'ing screen, do no disconnect. Now windows has an error screen pop up saying an unrecognized usb device. Troubleshoot it and it tells me to replace the device.
I tried to reset the iPod by pressing menu and play/pause button. No luck. The screen is still light up, so Im hoping that the battery will die and it will be reset that way.

Anybody else have this happen? Does this mean its dead? I listen to it for 12-13 hours a day at work so I really, really dont want it to be dead.

It happened to my iPod video 30gb a while back, it was stuck at the screen where it tells you not to DC it from the computer. I unplugged it and waited till the battey died down (with the ipods shit battery like a day) then plugged it back in and it was fine, I think it was wiped but that was fine, just synced it again.

this is my fourth ipod, and if it wasnt because i bought tons of music trough itunes i wouldnt get ipod anymore, what i would do is wait untill your ipod dies ( battery drains) and plug it inn again see if it works.
I have a 5th gen 120 gb it was working ok but suddenly it started skiping songs or just pausing itself, i looked for solutions and just found complaints, then nothing from apple
sooooooooo i am stuck restoring it and hopping it works APPLE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
