The story of how they got ahold of it is rather amusing. An Apple employee left the phone AT A BAR. The bartender offered the device to Engadget for what is reported to be $10k. If any of this is true, I'd hate to be that employee.

what's crazy is that he couldn't get more than $10k for it.

i'd have held out for $100k.

Btw, the old iPods were awesome! Especially the original 5GB with the moving wheel.

A controlled leak? The lost iPhone planted by Apple? You have no idea how Apple PR works—and how, like it or not, Gizmodo finally beat them at their own game.

I wouldn't say beat them at their own game. This was merely a rather lucky break... One that they took full advantage of. Can't say I blame them.

I agree, and boy do I miss those scroll wheels! Although I REALLY miss the 2nd gen with the orange backlight on the buttons.
