    Re: Question about RAM

Thanks for the help guys. I got some New Ram from Newegg, and it just arrived today. Put it in, and awesome. Very shiny. I went with Gskill, since it was within my price range for 2 1gb sticks, and got some good reviews.

Now, I have a question... Is there any way to tell how a RAM stick is dead? Without having to put one in, pull it out... Etc... Or is it safe to do that while the computer is on? Because I was messing around with Can You Run It? to see if my computer could handle ArmA II (I think it sounds like an interesting game) and it says that I only have 3 Gb of Ram, when I can clearly see all four of them plugged in...

You definitely don't want to pull a stick of RAM while the system is on.

NEVER add or remove any component to a PC while it's running, well minus USB and hot swappable sata drives. There is testing hardware that can test individual RAM DIMMs but it's a very expensive machine you will normally only find at an authority PC repair place. Otherwise the only cost effective way is to swap them out 1 at a time. If you are running a 32bit OS it will not see all 4G of the memory.
