Driver Sweeper + CCleaner is what I use when making the swap from nVidia to ATI or the reverse. It cleans up all the files & registry entries better than the installers do. Yeah, nVidia had some drivers that hosed up the fan controls and caused cards to overheat/burn out.

I have used CCleaner, but now driver sweeper. I will try it next time. I have gotten into the habit of making an image of my system after OS install prior to video driver installation. Then if need be I can reimage it and install the video I need. Only downside is if enough time has passed between when I installed my OS and when I switched video the updates I have to run to the base image is counterproductive.

Driver Sweeper does a good job of getting rid of the registry entries that directly name the driver files, but sometimes other related registry entries are missed. That's where CCleaner comes in.
