    maxtor got bought out eh?
Things you miss when you move from geek-squad type jobs to real IT work heh.

I knew that Quantum had been bought out, I thought it was by Maxtor though. I have seen many Quantum Fireball drives actually turn into fireballs. They had an LT chip on the controller board that would get very hot and explode. The computer shop I last worked at kept a bunch of controller boards for Fireballs on hand so we could recover customer's data from Fireballs that fireballed. I had also seen where Hitachi had taken over IBM's consumer grade drives. After 4 Deskstars (Deathstars) died on me in a span of one month, I was done with IBM drives forever.

I have a Samsung drive laying around somewhere. I think it is either 500GB or 320GB, but it isn't the fast Samsung drive.

As I said... 10% fail rate despite who the manufacturer is... You roll the dice every time you buy a drive. No getting around it (without paying a premium).

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

I had one like your Guyver, just died... about 1 and a half to 2 years of use. Lost all my stuff because none of it was backed up =/

Langrad: "We're here to win, not to..."

Learn from Kyle. Back up early and often. Hardware is cheap. Data is irreplaceable. The latest versions of Windows make backing stuff up almost too easy. A big, fat, slow, cheap external drive could save you a lot of heartache.
