so I have this card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...20gamer%20x-fi
and It works great except that it constantly feeds my mic back to me, even when I'm not talking. I hear an echo of every sound I make and if I'm silent there is still static. The mic is plugged into the white port and I'm certain it isn't a driver issue. It has done this with two different headsets and it is extremely annoying. How do I make it stop?

You're running the card on Windows Vista, I assume? I had this exact same problem on Vista, but when I moved back to XP, the problem disappeared. I don't know if it does the same on Windows 7 though.
However, my solution to the problem was to simply use my in-line mic mute until I needed to play. Once in game, the feedback is usually so quiet over the constant noise of a game that you won't notice the feedback. I spent a couple days looking for a solution, but no one has had the issue except me, up until you now I guess.

yeah I'm on vista. I've been trying everything and it looks like it's the "+20db boost" option in properties that's doing it. Immediately when that comes on the static kicks in. I've upped the input volume from 50 to 100 and turned that off. Sound recorder picks up my voice so I'll just have to see if it's loud enough in-game. Making a thread = the best and fastest way to stumble onto the answer

Make sure Monitoring is not on?
Control Panel -> Sound -> Recording tab -> Highlight device(s) in question -> Properties button -> Custom tab -> Make sure "Monitoring" checkbox is unchecked.
May have to do that for multiple devices in the list, depending on how Creative has decided to show the card features to Windows. You may also have to root around in the drivers for a similar setting, usually close to where you can set volumes.

Re: Creative xtreme gamer question
I already had this issue a while back. Go to the creative console and turn off the mic, I believe it is the first one on the left. I am not at home to look at mine but more than sure it is that one. Mute it, that should take care of your problem.
When I get home I will look at mine and verify that for you guys.

Re: Creative xtreme gamer question
This should work for you:
-->Control Panel
-->Hardware and Sound
-->Sound
-->Playback tab
-->Select "Speaker"
-->Right click and select "Properties"
-->Select "Levels" tab
-->Scroll down to "Microphone", then click speaker icon (note: the speaker icon should have a red sign over it now).
Problem solved!Last edited by iamjohnnyrico; 05-25-10 at 10:29 PM.
