I just ordered an ASUS 23" 1920x1080 LED backlight LCD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236075
It comes in tomorrow so I will give a short review after I check it out. I'm currently using a 19" Acer with 1440x900 resolution.

For me the biggest advantage of IPS panels is that they do not suffer from the poor vertical viewing angles of TN panels. On a TN panel, if you look at a single color displayed across the entire screen, it will appear different from top to bottom based on the angle changes from your eye. Read the external link I provided in my posts linked above to see some small advantages of the 2209 for gaming also.

I think it's worth $300 (actually I think it's worth even more), but it would be hard to pay it knowing it can be had for less than $250. Check ebay as well... some people stockpiled them when the prices were low and are re-selling with a very small markup, I'd guess.
