Epic lag
So, I sign on today and my ping is at like 230, when its usually rarely above 80. The culprit is usually my brother downloading something, but tonight its not. No machine on my network is using any extreme resources, we do however have an unsecured wireless router. Could someone just be mooching some epic bandwidth right now? What else could be wrong?

Unsecured router... that would be my first guess. Login to the router and most will show you the IPs that have been allotted... It's possible if you've got cable internet that they're doing work on your 'node' that hosts your neighborhood. It eventually goes away as the techs finish the upgrade.

Time Warner around here seems to do their upgrades during the day. I can always tell when they're doing it... the signals go wonky and my cable modem blips in and out. It's usually a couple days before they get the signals all cleaned up. My pings are all over the place and then everything is fine again.

Re: Epic lag
Sounds more like degradation, or an illegal hookup blasting noise into the cable plant. Though there are occasions where CMs happen in the middle of the day, those usually relate to maintenance that requires the presence of other companies (Such as commercial power), or logistical issues. A three day window seems abit harsh as well.
Anywho I wonder if Panic's Epic Lag is gone yet.
