CPU upgrade for my old laptop

Dell has a certification system for their hardware. While most hardware components are the same, there are some things unique to Dell systems, especially when it comes to Laptop repair. I was certified (7 years ago) as a Dell Repair Tech. Basically though, it's a way for Dell to know you know their hardware and procedures and allows you to bypass walking through troubleshooting with the phone technician and have parts dispatched directly to you. If you attempt to work with their hardware without being certified, you can invalidate the warranty on any machine you touch.

Okay, that makes sense for warranty purposes. Is there a recert program? It seems that you would need to stay updated as the proprietary hardware changes every year.
