    Comp Won't Boot up

So I start my comp up and it goes through the motions all the way up till the windows logo with the status bar beneath it (Logo on black background, Windows XP).

After that, it just goes black and restarts itself to repeat the process again.

I tried booting up in safe mode, same thing happens.

I tried booting up in safe mode w/no network connection (or whatever it's called), same thing.

Let's just assume I can't boot up from the XP disc, nor can I reinstall using an xp disc. Anyone have this problem before? Any solutions?

I'm fixing to go into my comp and make sure I didn't disconnect any wires by accident when I put in my new HDD.

FYI, after putting in my new HDD, the comp started and ran as normal for about 2 weeks. So I have no reason to believe it is an issue.

Shit, fuck ya... Was soooooo long ago though... Fuck what caused it... Mine was a hdd file issue and not with my hardware but something with windows software.

Go into your bios and ensure your "reboot on error" is OFF. Then boot into windows and see if this restart your getting is a bluescreen and go from there. Could be a million things (ex bad hardware component, corrupt critical driver, or something simple).

Well, I tried a number of things. All wires are in place and secured. And I couldn't even find what you were talking about in the bios bunni. Granted I'm not to saavy when it comes to that kind of stuff, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was right in front of my face and I just missed it.

With that said, it isn't rebooting itself...it just goes to the logo (like I mentioned earlier) and after that it just goes black....I let it sit there to see what would happen, but it just stayed blacked out....power still on.

I'm guessing it's a software issue, and I may just order a copy of XP from newegg and use it on my new HDD.

See if any of this helps. http://www.teamplayergaming.com/show...ighlight=black

In my experiences with mending windows problems, usually the best long term solution is a new fresh windows install, short term fixes or repair installs never work out for me in the long run.

Typically when things like that happen, I'll try a repair install, but like Bunni said, eventually will just reload the OS completely.

    Re: Comp Won't Boot up

I think I've seen this before and it did indeed have something to do with some Windows file. When loading Safe Mode you can see which files have loaded and it would freeze after the same file every time. I never could figure out how to fix it though and the Recovery Console was no help so eventually I just pulled files off that I wanted to save and did the old reformat and reinstall.
