    300 hours of standby means no background apps accessing the internet... For every widget you have that goes out and grabs stuff from the internet, you're sapping your battery life every time it does something.

    Yeah, there are a lot of tweaks available depending you your usage style- google battery life and whatever phone you have. You can generally reduce update rate on some things, turn off the active wallpaper, and so forth. You should definitely be able to make it through a day.

    Some phones have extended batteries available that are the same form factor, but add juice. For example, my HTC incredible comes with a 1350-mAh battery, or there-abouts, but I picked up a 1750-mAh battery for $40 on Amazon, and it kicks ass. No changes to the case or anything.

    I run advanced task killer, but all the apps suddenly come back after a bit, even if I don't open them.

    Turned off active wallpaper, removed most widgets, lowest brightness screen (which is slightly dimmer than max brightness)

    Got the phone to last a little longer than a day =P

    I dont really have too much of a phone charging issue....but then again, I make sure my phone is plugged in every night, and In the car...
