    Power Supply Issue...

So, the damn power company decided to shut my electric off today (1 month behind, douche bags)

After it came back on...My computer will not turn on now.

The back of the power supply has a blinking green light now..i have tried everything...did it fry my power supply?

    Re: Power Supply Issue...

What other components do you have in your system? I highly recommend Cooler Master power PSUs. I have 3 of them running boxes in my house and I have never had one fail so far. I ended up replacing the PSU in my HTPC with an Antec Earthwatts 430w PSU, simply because I wanted to save a little power as that box is on 24x7. I kept the 600w Cooler Master that used to be in the HTPC as a backup. So far, the backup has been collecting dust as none of my PSUs have failed.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171052 - It is not modular, but 650w should be a sufficient for a single video card system.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171053 - Here is a 750w if you need a bit more power... still not modular.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171036 - 600w modular (big price difference between modular and non-modular)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171037 - 700w modular... starting to get pretty high in price

There are a lot of other great PSUs out there. Corsair, OCZ, Thermaltake, and Antec are all reputable brands. I may be partial to one brand in particular do to a great customer experience with them, but you may find people on this forum that have a different opinion. I also decided that there is no point in being cheap when it comes to your PSU. A cheaply manufactured PSU may save you some money now, but it will have a shorter life and depending on the severity of the PSU failure, it could cause damage to other components.

I would invest in an ups before you do anything else. Get one that can remotely shut your computer down too.. Tripplite has some releatively cheap but good ones.

    Re: Power Supply Issue...

Im not techy nerdy, and dont really have a high performance machine.

I have an Intel Dual core, Nvidia 9800 GTX, hard drive, DVDrom...thats really it....Its an HP machine. The old power supply was 250 watts...my other gaming machine power supply (the one I blew yesterday) was 300 watts.

I hooked the 4 prong power one to the mother board, the 20 pin to mother board, then I had 4 4pin connectors. Does it matter which one of those 4 pin connectors go where? Or are they all universal? I have hardrive, DVDrom, and 2 for my video card....

The 4 pin molex universal but the 9800gtx will need a larger power supply than 300w

thats wierd because it has been running on my 250 for over a year...Ill be sure to get a 400...

The reason I ask about the 4pin molex's is...does it matter which ones go where? Or is it just plug them all in randomly
