    SSD

    OK,

Thinking about adding a SSD to my arsenal but have never added one to a machine. Do I need anything special or just the SSD, power cord, and SATA cord? Are they "mainstream" enough to not need major comp mods/software?

I can't help you out that much because i never owned or put in an SSD, but i believe its like putting in a hard drive. You might have to do something in the BIOS. Someone probably know more about SSD probably tell you.

SSDs are like any other HD. You'll likely need some conversion brackets to mount in a 3 1/2" drive slot, but outside of that, almost all I've seen are SATA-based.

Yup. BIOS should see the drive just like any other. It is a smaller form factor, similar to that of a 2.5" notebook drive, so you may need some mounting brackets. Retail drives might come with them, but OEM will surely be drive only.
