Thread: How to Find Windows Product Key

I was able to find where the Windows XP product key is stored on the CD. I haven't used my copy of Windows XP in a while and I had lost the packaging with the product key.

Follow these steps:

1) Insert Windows XP cd
2) Right Click on the Windows XP cd-rom drive and select explore
3) Search for the file "unattend.txt"

Your product key should be at the bottom of the document. Thank you Google search!

Does the omniscient Google mention whether or not the same applies to Vista and Windows 7 discs?

It did not work for Windows 7. I am still searching. I will have to dig up my Vista CD.
