This article isn't 100% accurate. It does not brick the phone. It puts it until recovery mode until an approved/signed boot rom is flashed. The hackers have already rooted the phone, which is the first step. Basically, all it prevents is people from flashing custom/unapproved ROMs to their phone.

My girlfriend has the DroidX now. It puts my Droid to shame. I don't know why these people need to root their phones anyways. It is a damn phone... quit fucking with it.

If a damn phone is all you want, why did you get a Droid?

I rooted my Moment (Android) in about 5 minutes. There are plenty of things I can do now that I couldn't do before. Just last night I downloaded a free screencap utility from the market which only works on rooted phones. Score.
