could be a usb short... had that happen on a tower. one of the metal usb prons touched the side of the case and cased similar symptoms.

Bear in mind that any change in the motherboard will necessitate a re-activation of your Windows operating system. That's not a major issue, apparently, if it's due to a MB failure, but you will probably have to call Microsoft to accomplish the re-activation. Now, if you replace it with an identical MB, re-activation should not be necessary.
