Mup.sys
Recently, my only access to the internet stopped working. It runs on XP pro and will start to boot, bios->xp loading screen with the little blue bar at the bottom, then crashes and restarts.
When running in safe mode the system hangs at mup.sys.
I put in a linux live disk and was able to boot and use the computer (that's how I am posting this after all)
After doing some research online the main causes for this type of behaviour is failing HDD or registry errors.
I ran 2 diagnostics for the HDD. 1 from an option in BIOS the other from the live disk. both passed.
Anyone got any insight on this issue?

That'd repair the MBR. I suspect that you've got a corrupt DLL somewhere though. Have you tried booting into safe mode command line? See if that works and run 'sfc /scannow'. That'll check your DLLs and try to replace/repair damaged ones. Booting off of XP media and doing a repair install would likely fix it, too.
