Kiss ATI goodbye: AMD's retiring the brand

A moment of silence, please, for a venerable name in computing history.

Anyone who's ever installed a new graphics card in a computer, or who cared about the power and quality of a system's video capabilities, has considered the ATI brand. But AMD, which bought the maker of graphics adapters in 2006, has decided to put ATI's name on the shelf.

meh - i don't think the name (at this point) matters much anymore for products from AMD/ATI. I think that people that pay attention to the hardware know what is what regardless of whether it's called AMD or ATI.

You had me going there for a moment there LaggyNgroovy. Just as long as the gpu's come from AMD's R&D I will be ok.

We can't let nvidia's toaster ovens run wild now can we?

ATM the 5870 is serving me well and I might have a qx9650 in the works as a upgrade pretty soon.

We should all hit up joystix again next month.

If they are just dropping the ATI name, I don't think it'll be that big of a deal. Nothing else will really be changing it sounds like so I don't think a lot of change will come from this.
