Ok, so I've got a new rig planned out and I have a question about what memory i should choose.
I'm planning to get the MSI 790FX-GD70 Motherboard and the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition AM3 CPU
I was wondering about what would be the fastest, best performing memory (and great to overclock) to get for this setup?Last edited by fender_dude07; 09-19-10 at 05:03 PM.

Re: Help picking out new RAM
Newegg.com - MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard
Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX
I'd go with:
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ

MSI 790FX-GD70 Motherboard - AMD 790FX, Socket AM3, ATX, Audio, CrossFireX, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN, USB 2.0, SATA, RAID at TigerDirect.com
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition AM3 CPU HDZ965FBGMBOX - 3.40GHz, Socket AM3, 6MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s) FSB, Retail, Processor with Fan at TigerDirect.com
now, i dont know much about this but will 2000mhz perform better than 1600?

Re: Help picking out new RAM
It might, but in my experience the L3 cache on the Phenom processors is enough to get the job done. You can always go up higher end but the price goes up.
Mushkin makes good RAM too.

There is some 2000 MHz RAM. Warning, you may have to overclock it to 2000 MHz in BIOS.

Newegg.com - OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3RPR1600C8LV4GK
I am running 4GB in my new build and I have it overclocked to 1946 MHz. Can't beat that for $78.99 after rebate.
