    Need TV advice

So I just got a 1600$ refund check from my college, I'd like a new TV, preferably $500 or less...I want to put the rest back towards my college funds.

I've been using the same "Element Electronics" 19" TV for the past couple of years. I'd like something LCD and hopefully over 25 inches. Any ideas? Never gone TV shopping before...

It's easy to get a TV, but hard to go to school. Make the right choice. That's my advice.

For that price I would buy this:

    Panasonic - VIERA 42" Class / 720p / 600Hz / Plasma HDTV - TC-P42C2

After college you can upgrade and put this in your office.

    Honor Respect Duty

If you're going to get one, get an IPS panel.

That says it may not be best for gaming due to motion blur and stuff. I pretty frequently play my 360 on my TV so will it be an issue?

I'd wait 2-4 months if I were you. Prices are expected to bottom out thanks to surplus and the holidays.

Flat-screen prices to tumble ahead of holiday season - Sep. 23, 2010

What are the prevalent panel types for LCD TV's? I really don't know, and I can't find any info. I know for monitors, TN is prevalent with IPS and PVA making up a small segment of the market, though they are both far superior for most tasks, and IPS is the best all around if you want to game also. But I have never seen much info about panel types for TV's, and when I go to Best Buy, the viewing angles on all the screens (even the cheapos) would lead me to believe they are not TN's. My 3-year old Sammy has a great vertical viewing angle, and I never thought to research panel type when I bought it. I would never game "seriously" on my TV, but I have played some third person shooters on the PS3 and didn't notice any horrid lag.

A TN TV would indeed suck, since the user's viewing angle/height is even less controllable than a computer (multiple users with different head heights, multiple chair heights, etc). At least with a TN monitor it is only one person who can control his height to minimize the color variations.
