Running two different ATI cards (not in crossfire) on same mobo?

i would like to hook up an old OLD ass monitor i have in the spare bedroom to my old ATI card. im not even sure what it is its so old. but it works pretty good. i have a 5770 for my LCD for my main display. but someone said i should match the monitors on the same card. but since its not the same monitor, would it be ok to put the old ati card in the mobo for the old monitor and it also has a s video output for my tv.

You should be able to plug the old monitor onto the 5770 with no problems, may need to buy / find a dvi-vga adapter though..

If i were you I would use the newer card with the 2 different monitors, you always have the option to configure display settings on each one differently.

Putting an older card with the older monitor is just more work then whats required..

alright thanks. ive just heard that if you dont have the same type of monitor on one card, it can cause issues. but the old monitor is only going to be for more for monitoring temps and voltages and fan speeds while in game

i would really like to get the small 7 inch monitor i have or the lcd i took out of an old crashed laptop and mod it into the side panel of my case and use it. anyone know a way to do it?

Nah, it shouldn't be an issue. I have my 27" as my main display and my old 19" Viewsonic as my extended display when it isn't being used for testing/building systems. It works fine.

This sounds to me like a BS excuse to buy too monitors at once. I have run dual montior setups that aren't the same for years. You will see this sometimes though people justifying spending more money with stuff like this. All modern video cards are set up to do this though, the only thing is you may have to set up the resolution of the new monitor outside of the ATI Catalyst Control Center, if they have different resolutions, but Win7 handles this no problem.

I have no issues running 2 different monitors off a single card. I've got an Acer x223w (22" 1680x1050) and a Samsung 204B (20" 1600x1200) running off a single 5870. Works great. I game on the Acer and use the Samsung as a supplemental monitor. Xfire, Steam, TeamSpeak, etc all run on the second monitor so I can still see stuff happening there while in game on the Acer.
