Re: Free ebooks ?
If you mean books that are no longer copyrighted, or are free to download by the graces of the author or publisher, sure.

Free eBooks - Barnes*&*Noble
On the other hand, if you mean current, copyrighted material, well, that would be illegal, and we won't be going there."A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

Warlady,
i realize now that my reply might have come across as a bit accusatory, which was not my intent. I apologize if it seemed that way. My primary intention was to head off any responses in this thread that might have wandered into the "unethical" side of file sharing.
As long as you stick with legitimate sites such as the ones mentioned above, and avoid the torrent sites, you should be fine.
Your concern about viruses makes me wonder: what antivirus are you using? Have you had an issue with malware?"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

Re: Free ebooks ?
Very good. I actually use both of those. If you haven't splurged on the paid version of Malwarebytes ($25 US), I highly recommend it. It adds real time protection that the free version doesn't.
Another great free software addition to the security arsenal is OpenDNS | Internet Navigation And Security. The free version is quite capable, runs seamlessly (I always forget it's installed), and can protect you from phishing sites. It's great for parents as it allows web content filtering. And, the company claims it speeds up web surfing."A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."
