    Microphone problems

My old Sound Blaster sound card started sounding funny and people were having a hard time hearing me with VOIP in BF2. So I bought a new one.....Creative Soundblaster and it sounds better than the old card but my transmissions are still too low for my squad members to hear me in game. I have tried almost everything I can think of to turn the transmit volume louder but nothing seems to work. I also cannot check the boost microphone in my audio settings before joining a game. I also noticed the sound is not quite lined up with the video. An airplane or tank or jeep seems to sound off to the left or right 10-15 degrees as compared to the direction I am facing. There are numerous settings in the Creative Console Launcher and the Creative Audio Control Panel. I am not sure what to do.

I am using Windows 7 which is proving to be a real pain in the ass with gaming.

    Can anyone help?

    TIA...

    Re: Microphone problems

Hi, I presume you got the latest drivers from creative website.(after clicking on your product, scroll to bottom & choose your operating system)
    http://support.creative.com/Products...s.aspx?catid=1

"Windows 7" Microphone setup : Right click on volume icon next to clock > recording devices > Microphone(right click on microphone & "set as default device"also"set as default communication device") > Properties > custom > put a tick in the box Microphone +20db Boost > Levels > put microphone slider to 40%(if your voice is still low in BF2 comms, put slider to 50% etc, etc) > advanced > 2 channel,24 bit,48000Hz(studio quality) > click OK > click OK.

    "Windows 7" speaker setup : Right click on volume icon next to clock > Playback devices > speakers(right click on speakers & "set as default device"also"set as default communication device") > Configure > select your speaker setup making sure you got the connectors in the correct speaker ports > next>next>next>finish > speakers > properties > Levels(scroll to bottom & unmute the microphone) > Sound blaster > settings > Mode>game mode > Speakers>SVM off > EAX effects>enable eax effects(0.0db default,adjust to your preference) > X-fi CMSS-3D>untick enable X-fi cmss-3d > X-Fi Crystalizer>enable x-fi crystalizer(50% default,adjust to your preference) > close > advanced > 24 bit,48000Hz(studio quality) > OK > OK.

(You can try 96000Hz on the Microphone & 192000Hz on the speakers if stable).
(put BF2 inbound & outbound comm sliders to 100% & use the microphone slider in "Levels" in the setup procedure above).

    Re: Microphone problems

When downloading and installing the new drivers I got this message: Unable to install drivers. Please contact support services and quote "ERROR I-010". Hmmm, now what?

Hi, Uninstall all creative drivers, uninstall everything to do with creative & delete everything to do with creative in C:drive > install the latest downloaded driver for the OS your using > restart PC.
(if you need any add ons/plug ins, download the latest for your product via creative's website).

(Golden Rule : never install a driver on top of an already installed driver. :P )

    Re: Microphone problems

I am going to remove everything labeled Creative and/or Soundblaster.

Death, you mentioned something about DTS. What is that? Is it under Creative?

I don't like getting the error code when installing the drivers. I will not let that on go unanswered. If I DO re-install the drivers and I am not successful, do you'll think it will be worth trying to reinsall BF2 before exchanging the sound card?

If you get the error code trying to install the driver once you have uninstalled everything to do with creative/sound blaster, skip or cancel the error & continue, then restart computer & install the driver again = now it will install no problem

    Re: Microphone problems

Re-installed the drivers and the sound is lining up with the direction that I am facing in game. It appears that my camera microphone is the default microphone "in game" and I am not sure how to make my headset microphone the default mic. I am pretty sure I made the headset microphone the default mic at least for Skype. Why is isn't the headset mic the defualt for in game play too? I know, I know, I am not that computer savvy.
