    Quick Rooting Question

So I am getting my dad's old Moto DROID from him, because he is getting a newer phone. I know I want to root this thing, and have a basic idea of how to do it. However, the one thing I do not know is how to get my phone information onto it. Should I take this to a Verizon store pre-root to get my information put on it, or can they still do this after the process?

They can't transfer phone #'s from traditional cellphones to any of the Android phones. It has to do with the integration with Google/Gmail. The one positive is because it uses Google/Gmail contacts, you can at least edit/create your contacts using a PC rather than typing them in on your phone.

I'm already using an Eris currently (which will be my backup if rooting fails), so basically all I have to do is get my email onto the Droid and it should sort itself out?

Yeah. Basically you do a factory reset on the Droid... and when it boots, it'll prompt you for your Google account info. It'll pull all your contacts from Google and place onto the Droid. The only bad thing about the process is you need to re-download all your apps, although if you have any paid apps you bought through the Google Market will be remembered and you can re-download for free.

Yeah.... Google integration makes it pretty easy. I've not swapped phones, but I've done 2 factory resets on my Droid when I had issues after updates. Generally speaking it fixed the issues.

Dusk, does your Eris run slow sometimes?? mine does. I am wanting to upgrade to the incredible or X.

How do the paid apps remember who you are? is it by your Email or information of the phone?

Yep, gunny, my Eris is a slow lil phone. Still works better than the iPhone, IMO, but slower.

And I believe the Google integration would take care of paid apps, so Email, like WileE said.

As long as you purchased the apps through the Google/Android Market, it should remember them. You pay for them using Google Checkout, and that's tied to your e-mail address. Third-party markets/websites... not so much.

If you have a lot you can create a csv in excel (or any text editor) and upload them all at once.
