I was having a heck of a time with my PC after installing the ATI Catalyst 10.12 drivers. I'd launch a game, and both monitors would go black... and then flash the correct video, flash black, and then FINALLY flash back to the correct video. Same thing would happen if I tried to Alt-Tab out while in a game. Did a little Googling and saw that others were having the issue. Common thread seems to be Windows 7 64-bit and the 10.12 drivers. At any rate. I backed out my 10.12 drivers and reinstalled the 10.10 drivers. Uninstalled using the ATI installer, booted into safe mode, ran Driver Sweeper, rebooted and then installed 10.10 and rebooted once again. Problem solved.

You really shouldn't need to update your drivers with every release unless there is something in particular that this version is fixing. When I was using ATI/AMD, I would stick with the LAST release, not the most current, unless there was a Catalyst profile that would improve my frame rates.... especially with Crossfire since it took AMD about a year and a half to get it right.

They're constantly updating profiles to tweak performance. At least in most of the 2010 releases. I was after the new Catalyst Control Center (new GUI). AMD contracted a company specializing in UI design to rework CCC.
