You are still equating a nook with a nook color. The nook is epaper just like the kindle and sony readers... along with dozens of other epaper readers. The epaper readers all have outstanding battery life because they don't use power once the page is displayed. You can equate it to epaper being like a flash memory card in your camera, comared to memory in your computer which is erased when the computer is turned off.

Straight from the B&N website. The nook continues to draw power even after displaying the page. It is back lit, the kindle if you are in the dark you can't see the page even when the writing is displayed. You have to use an outside light source to illuminate it. The nook is back lit. It gets 3-5days on a charge depending on the amount of reading you do per day. According to some of that reviews it gets 8-12 hours of reading time to a charge. Yes they both have e-ink but the nook also has a color LCD screen on the bottom that draws a lot more power.

It lists the Nook Color at 10 days between charges with wireless off and the kindle and 1 month with the wireless off.

In both, the nook and the nook color the time between charges is way less than the kindle which is what I said before. I grouped the nook and nook color into one statement because the nook color has a larger battery to support the color feature but the time between charges is about the same for both devices.

I've had MANY ereaders of all different types. The nook's lower lcd screen is on for roughly 10 seconds after you finish using it. Which is only long enough to choose the book you want to read. Last time I charged my nook? About a week ago. Airplane mode on (which is wi-fi off) and the lcd settings set to turn it off reasonably quickly. The actual epaper screen is NOT backlit just like any other epaper screen (excepting the sony prs 700 which was their first touch screen version and did have backlighting). So one week of charge and using it regularly and it's got about 1/3rd charge left.

Does it last as long as the sony's I've had? No. Does it last more than long enough for anybody? Yes. If you are on a two or three day business trip and forget your charging cable (usb), does it matter if it holds a charge for a week and a half or one month? No. It sure don't.

I still contend that the best reader is neither the kindle or the nook though. It's the PRS900 Sony Daily Edition.

Oh, and as I said before, battery life JUST regarding epaper isn't even measured in time. It's measured in page turns since that's the only time power is used. Were it not for 3G, wifi, or in the nook's case, the lower lcd screen they would all last the same amount of page turns per mwh on the battery.
