Free antivirus/anti spyware programs?

I am in need of a solid, reliable antivirus/antispy program as my program's trial has run out.
Does anybody have any recommendations?
They would be MUCH appreciated.

I'd recommend using Microsoft Security Essentials. I use it on my desktop and laptop. Works great since you can get the updates through Windows updates.

That's what i use on my main laptop too, but my secondary doesn't have it..
is it free?
maybe i should actually know about things i use...

Microsoft Security Essentials and MalwareBytes are what I use on all my PCs. MSE for day to day resident protection and MalwareBytes for periodic scans of the PC.

Yes, MSE is free. They actually are thinking of forcing people to get it so they can auto update it in hopes that it'll reduce viruses from spreading. Won't work though.
