I hardly play any games that use VAC anyway on steam, majority of my steam games are single player.

Put CC cleaner on the laptop. When you load it up, it'll have the info at the top of the window. I'm sure there's an easier way for Macs, but I don't own one so...
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Use the Apple menu, top-left corner of the screen.

Select the first item: "About This Mac"

That'll give you a summary; OS version, Processor and speed, installed RAM, name of default start-up disc.

If you need more info, I believe you can get that using the button that's cryptically titled "More Info..."

    Cheers,

Yeah, you just drag shit. Generally, the install process goes like this:

    1) drag new application to the Applications folder
    2) you're done

Applications may come as downloads, or as disc images (double-click to mount), or on CDs or DVDs, etc.

The new app may want to do things the first time you run it, but that's the same everywhere.

As someone already said, 10.4 is too old. Steam requires an intel-based Mac and Mac OS 10.5 or newer.

Apple switched to intel processors in 2006. There was a long transition period where the Mac OS would run on either platform. Leopard (10.5) came out late 2007, and will run on both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs. I don't know if you can buy it new anymore.

Snow Leopard (10.6) will only run on intel-based Macs. It's $30 in an Apple store or anywhere else that sells Apple stuff. I bought it about a year ago for a friend who has a MacBook Pro. The upgrade went seamlessly for me. There isn't even a license code, and nothing but friction or honour keeps anyone from using a single disc to install multiple copies.

If you upgrade to, say, 10.5, then the bump to 10.5.8 will come as a large set of downloads via Software Update. It shouldn't be a problem, but it's wise to do the upgrade when you're near a power source (especially if the battery is old) and a decent net connection. There will be a fair amount of disc activity. The same goes for 10.6 - when I did it last year for my friend the process was painless, but it was time consuming.

    Cheers,
