    It likely could do better than low-medium settings. A single 485 should be able to handle BC2 on high settings. I'd wager dual 485's would be OK for BF3 on high.

    if you are going the laptop route get a laptop cooler as well for it to sit on or you will find yourself with roasted chestnuts.

    You can build a kick butt i7 triple channel gaming rig with the latest graphics for 1.5k-2k. 3.5k for a laptop is so crazy. Laptops are very hard to upgrade. You are limited to power and space and heat restrictions. In a full tower you want to upgrade and you need more power you upgrade your PS, if you need cooling you install better ventilation or a liquid cooling system. With a laptop you are stuck with the amount of power available and typically newer mobility chips will not be compatible with older ones so you can't upgrade them. That is what makes laptops out of date so fast. Other than maybe a larger HD (or SSD) or more memory there isn't a lot you can do with laptop upgrades. A lot of them even have their CPU's soldered to the board so unless you are really good with a soldering gun you can't upgrade it.
