The WD Raptor may have the fastest RPM, but you are getting raped when it comes to basically everything else. The price is too high, the space is too small. You are better off getting a nice SATA drive in RAID.

I have owned the following:

Western Digital 20 GB - Died
Seagate 40 GB - Had crashing issues...
Maxtor 120GB - 3 years and still strong
Maxtor 40GB - 4 years and still strong

Since I have had the best luck with Maxtor drives, I recommend the following:

Most of their stuff comes with a 3 year warranty. This is probably a standard, so even if you choose Seagate or WD, if your drive breaks, just send it in.
