03-16-11, 09:46 PM #1Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch Fun
Fun little device, been wanting something like this for a while for my PC that allows me to try to be creative (I want to get into drawing again, at least a little) and also help with handwriting or whatever. Got a nice discount on it with my employee accommodation.
Bamboo Fun
So far my only problem with it is that it does not like the tip of my Index Finger at all, so I either have to use my middle finger (which actually isn't a big deal, just as comfortable) or put my index on there flat instead of using the tip.
Love how I can switch between touch and pen simply by putting the pen tip near it or taking it away. So if I want to scroll more efficiently with the two finger scroll I can while still holding the pen in the same hand. Haven't really had any compatiblity issues yet, think this will be interesting to use in RTSs (if I could ever get used to that) and Civ V.
Also nice that they thought of us who use dual monitors. The pen by default will split the pad in half, right half being the right screen, left being the left screen. Not very efficient if you want to draw. So they put in a great little setting to select which monitor (or a specified area, if you want only a certain area of the screen) that the pen will work on (but this also means you won't be able to use it on the other monitor unless you switch the setting. Hmm, didn't think to look if I can bind a button to switch between the monitors).
Oh, and it came with Photoshop Elements CS9, good bonus there, as well as a free Cafe Press Premium Store.

Coincidentally, it actually makes a pretty decent hard mouse mat as well (not that I will be actually doing that though).
I like it for quick use of the computer instead of having to grab the mouse (that sounds like an Oxy Moron to me XD ), haven't started drawing with it yet, but for basic use on the computer it is pretty simple and easy to use. About to go in and set up one of the buttons to be a middle mouse click so I can open new tabs that way.

My mother has the one just smaller than that one I believe, and she loves it. But she has been using these things for YEARS (I actually have a 12 year old one sitting in a box in the next room). I would have got one of those, but I didn't really need the extra features, and I wanted to have the touch capability.

Nothing beats being able to just draw right on the screen though. For me it takes a bit of a mental disconnect to get drawing on one surface and seeing what I'm drawing on another. But that's just me.
