While Windows is 'plug-n-play' compatible... it's HIGHLY recommended to reload. You'll be tracking down gremlins until the end of time otherwise.

    Question for you......

I have been playing around with some overclocks on my i7 920 and seem to get better temps without having Hyperthreading on. Any performance difference having it off vs on?

8 threads vs 4 threads/Basically an 8 core vs a 4 core. All depends how much cpu power you need for the games/apps you run. Cpu usage...

Raise the cpu fan speed in the bios.

For gaming, you don't really need Hyperthreading on. I keep my Hyperthreading on because I use my machine for folding and video encoding. There are other applications that take advantage of Hyperthreading, but for gaming, you are likely fine keeping it off if your temps are out of control. I get about 10 deg C difference when I turn mine off. Gaming is still mostly GPU dependent.

If you don't have an aftermarket cooler, you might want to consider investing in one. This way you can keep Hyperthreading on while things stay cooler.

Just re-read your original post and saw you already have the Zalman cooler. When you say "better temps", what are the temps at load with HT on vs off?
