Netbooks
So my parents are looking into getting a netbook for when my mom travels for work, and for me to use for school when she isn't traveling, but I have very little knowledge or Netbooks, or Laptops in general, so I was wondering if anyone had some tips for shopping for netbooks, what to look for or other suggestions, or where to buy from, the store direct from the companys website. Any input is appreciated, thanks in advance,
Jude

I'm selling a slightly used netbook with some extras... I can give details if you pm me. My wife decided she wants a full blown desktop, so let me know.

Re: Netbooks
Jude,
I would advise against buying a netbook.. You can buy an entry level laptop for around 4-500$ Newegg.com - ASUS A52 Series A52F-XN1 NoteBook Intel Pentium P6100(2.00GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 320GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel HD Graphics

Re: Netbooks
netbooks are not for everyone. I have one and I love it but its functionality is very limited. I can do more than an ipad for example but it can't run everything a full fledged laptop can. I recommend the ASUS EEE line of netbooks. They are fantastic. You will want to do a memory upgrade (which is very easy - 1 screw in the back) and if you buy it from newegg it will almost always offer you a discount on extra memory when you buy the netbook.
Newegg.com - Netbooks,EEE
These are the EEE netbooks available from newegg. There are many to choose from. Things you need to understand about netbooks
They are great for office apps, taking notes, surfing the web and doing email.
They will not run even the most basic games, not even facebook apps with any efficiency. I can't do farmville on mine for example. However, they are fantastic if all you need it for is word, excel, email etc. Their small size makes them easy to carry anywhere (I use mine for class notes daily), they come with webcam typically and built in mic so they can be used for Skype.
I can watch hulu on mine or youtbue but the picture quality isn't fantastic. They are not HD. I do, however, get just over 10 hours of battery life with mine and that is with it in performance profile. I can get almost 12 if I change to energy saver.
The only thing I did with mine is upgrade it from 1GB to 2GB of memory and I am running windows 7 starter. It does everything I need it to do for classes.

Definitely look at Asus. And Toshiba and Samsung, too. Those are the three top quality brands right now. HP SUCKS do not even consider buying one of those right now, same with Gateway, Dell would be ok, but you would still be better off with Asus or Toshiba or Samsung.

My first car was slow as hell and made by ford. Does this mean ford sells no fast cars?
Every company "makes" slow and fast models. Learn about what's under the hood of each model relative to the price, and decide what to buy from there.
