Question Strange Windows 7 64-bit Issue

Hi there folks - good morning. I thought I'd toss this out there for my TPG techie friends to chew on.

Recently installed (clean install) Windows 7 64-bit. New Phenom II X4 proc. Updated all drivers. Installed latest Catalyst 11.3 drivers. Got apps, software and games installed. Plays great.

Scores 7.8 on GFX and CPU and RAM.

Problem: When I wake the PC from sleep, Aero Theme settings (Glass, Icons, etc) are disabled. Previously on the Vista 64-bit install I didn't have this problem at all. All hardware is the same with the exception of the processor.

Has someone else had this problem before? If so, were you able to fix it? I've been searching the interwebz for a few days and have tried a few different things to no avail.

It's not a huge deal. It just means that I shut the PC down each time instead of putting it to sleep. But, I would like to be able to put it to sleep and wake it without problem as I used to.

    Thanks for the assistance.

    Al,

Its been a long standing problem when waking from sleep. The aero interface can't restart. We actually changed our AD group policies to disable sleep mode it's such a pain in the ass. For some people loading the latest video driver but not the catalyst control center fixes it, other it doesn't help at all. Sorry there isn't an easy answer. Most people think its a driver issue, Microsoft points the finger at ATI and ATI points at Microsoft. Its an error that has been around since RC2 and I have yet to see a perfect answer that fixes every since instance of the error. Short answer, don't use sleep mode.

hehe ok thaks Phyre....I was beginning to suspect the same sort of \o/ responses from both parties :/

I'll keep looking as well in the hopes that I can figure this out. Two reasons, I hate having to cold boot each time and hibernate sucks donkey nuts in my experience.

One thing I'll have to try though is uninstalling the CCC and just installing the latest drivers and see if that helps.

Crazy though to think that Vista handled this without issue with the same GFX hardware and drivers (including CCC)

I have problems with aero restarting but unrelated to sleep...when it happens, I just open CMD and type 'net stop usxms' then once it finishes 'net start uxsms' . It doesnt keep the problem from happening but its a real quick fix to reload aero when it does happen.

I just had this happen to me, but it fixed itself after a min or two. As far as the drivers go, I updated mine through steam, so idk if it installed CCC or not.

well I still haven't uninstalled CCC to see if that is the issue. I'll likely try that tonight.
