For me, my internet is my lifeline. I telework 3 days a week and NEED internet service. What I do is have a locally hosted webserver for development (accessible only from my LAN) and then I move my code out to my web host when it's ready for prime time.

Yes i do want to run a web server without a port redirect, and i'll have to look into my ISP's AUP to see if im screwing my self up. But i heard from some people that there is a few ISP's out there that with a standard high speed internet service, they have port 80 open to them and they can set up a web server.

There are no ISP's that i know of that do that... At least anymore. I had Cox a few years ago and they let it slide for a while.... Eventually they shut me and everyone else down.

What you could do though is find a friend who has a server... Have them host your site link. with the dns records pointing to them.. have them forward all your traffic to you over a high number port and you should be good that way... Port forwarding/translation would still happen but its a little more transparent to the users. It's the same concept of a dmz but a little more complex.. and no firewalls required

I would have a friend host a site for me now if i knew somebody who has one. I currently have my own server at my fathers house and i am apparently breaking Cox's AUP by host game servers and VOiP servers. Now i do know how to go around the port 80 situation, but i do wish to get rid of the :XXXX at the end of the url, and do so with out buying a business class service because i dont need that much bandwidth yet. All i would need is port 80 open.

    Re: Port 80 open: ISP's

Currently i am hosting CoD1, CoD:UO, Gmod and i just took off CoD4. I also host a vent and TS server, but more vent than TS.

This is the server right here
YouTube - Herp Derp Server Update

I've added on two router lines that go to a lan hub in that room. And the server has two lan lines with separate ips that go to the hub so i can host off two different local lines but one outside ip. Very effective.
