Just save it towards your PC fund unless you have a need for a home based server that would actually need all the extra features that come with a Xeon processor.
So, in summary: not really good or bad just unnecessary.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Re: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT EXPERIMENTAL COMPUTER PURCHASE
I guess it depends on a few things. First: what kind of "Xeon" is it? The brand is more than 10 years old. If it's a Pentium II Xeon, then I'm guessing it would be a fine purchase for use as a door stop that doubled as a space heater.
Second: what do you want to do with it? If it's one of the newer Xeons it would make a badass media server, or a nice workstation for lots of things.

I think it is a bad idea. If you want a server for your home, you are better off building in inexpensive PC and throwing Windows Home Server on it.

When you decide to upgrade your gaming rig, just convert your old box into a Windows Home Server.
Windows Home Server
I had a home server box for a while, but I scrapped it and just started streaming stuff from my HTPC. When I did have it, I really liked it. It backed up all of the PCs connected to my network... automatically! It was so easy and simple to config. I was adding WD Green drives to it like crazy... had to buy a SATA PCI card as my old motherboard only had 2 SATA ports. I had about 6 drives in there at one time. Now I only have 2 storage drives and a boot drive on my HTPC.
Either way... full blown servers are not necessary in your home. Home Server does pretty much everything you would ever need.
