Thread: Steam Messages Mute Chrome

Ok this started happening a few weeks ago right after one of the steam updates and now it's back again. I am watching a video on youtube with the volume at an appropriate level, then I get a steam message that is 5x louder than it should be and immediately the sound on my youtube video drops out to where I can't hardly hear it.

The only way to restore my sound in chrome is to open up my volume mixer and manually turn up to the volume of Chrome (which is now sitting at 1 instead of 20). This happens over and over again every time I get a message on steam. Is there any way to fix this or do I just have to wait for steam to fix their crap?

Running Windows 7 64 bit if it makes any difference.

FF doesn't have any problems with Steam.

And I use both. I really don't have a horse in either corral. Some things work and look better in FF, and some in Chrome. As for speed, they are pretty much interchangeable for me.

read the OP, his problem is with chrome.

I've never had the problem so I cant help...but I dont watch youtube much so IdK. For the record FF4 is pretty nice, much nicer than FF3.

Try this:
Go to control panel -> sound -> communications tab -> set it to "do nothing".

Should fix the issue.
