Re: New Vid Card
Man, refurbished is such a gamble. Last year i got my sons quad core computer from best buy refurbished. The thing is a beast and hasnt had a hiccup. In Feb i got myself one, (6 core AMD w/8gigs) saving 300 bucks over the new one of the same model and it lasted 4 days and shit the bed. Ended up dropping the extra 300 and getting the new one.

Re: New Vid Card
I think Dex has issues other than the card though. We steam chatted and he was getting nearly double fps from CS:S on the new card over his previous card. That's not right. They were both 4890s. At BEST he might see a few fps difference if the new one was clocked higher. But certainly not double. There might be something else going on there.

Re: New Vid Card
I'm starting to think the problem was that card all along. Odd that it worked for the night. And worked so damn well. I was watching the temp in CCC while I played, and it never went above 63c, so it wasn't a heat thang.....
But....one I went back to the old card, I tried it on two different rails of the psu, and both worked flawlessly. I'm leaning away from it being a psu issue, and more of a GPY issue. This current card hasn't lost any steps in the year and a half I have owned it....and never burped, hiccuped, or had any problems at all. It was just born without an HDMI out.
Hopefully Sapphire will hook me up with something. In the meantime, I'm up and running.

That sucks, Dex. I have had some luck with refurb and open box stuff before. Never had any "serious" issues. I just hate when they sell an open box motherboard without the I/O plate... really grinds my gears. It is almost like someone bought the board, took the plate, and returned it. Bastards!
I hope you get things sorted out.

Re: New Vid Card
Like I told Dex... I recommended it so if he has any problems with getting it swapped out from sapphire (athlon micro which handles their rma's), or eparts where he got it, I'll stand behind it and buy it from him. It's why I hesitate to recommend a refurb but as stated, I have never had a problem with one myself. I go out of my way to look for open box items and refurbs for the usually great price breaks you can get on them. But if I recommend something I'll stand behind it.

Re: New Vid Card
I am all for buying refurb on things that do not have important accessories. My TV and Home Theater Subwoofer are refurb from bestbuy... A videocard is normally a great candidate for a refurb purchase, it doesn't have any accessories that are essential. Hopefully they will honor a warranty or replace it for you.
