He doesn't play games....at all. About the most intensive program he runs is Photoshop (CS3?), as he is an amateur shutterbug. He is looking....in his words..."to shit horsepower".

His current desktop is a 1.4ghz single core AMD (I believe Moses had the same one) with 2 gigs of RAM. He also has a split drive, with ~40 gigs on his C drive. I think he should notice a slight performance increase with this:

    Micro Center - Intel Core i5 2500K LGA 1155 Boxed Processor 179648

    Newegg.com - ASUS P8P67 DELUXE (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

    Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8

    Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100284VXL Radeon HD 5750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

    Newegg.com - CORSAIR Professional Series AX850 850W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

    Newegg.com - ASUS Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 24X DVD-R 8X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 1.5MB Cache SATA DVD-Writer

Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Newegg.com - Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW120G3K5 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

    Newegg.com - D-Link DWA-556 IEEE 802.11g/n PCI Express Xtreme Desktop Adapter Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA, WPA2)

    Newegg.com - ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink

Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

His desktop is connected to his wireless router (type n), so I think he needs that adapter.....but i could be wrong. Otherwise.....you guys have any thoughts or suggestions?

Gonna be a great comp im building one pretty much the same lol

She is done........and HOLY FREAKIN CANOLI is that sumbitch fast........

Windows experience was held down to 7.3 because of the 5750 vid card.....otherwise everything else was at 7.8 or better.
From the time you push the power button, to the time you are at the desktop....25 seconds. Windows boots in about 10 seconds.

And nice and quiet, too. Delivering and setting up for the old man tonight.......he's gonna flip. Going from a 1.43Ghz single core to a 3.3Ghz quad core with an SSD.....he will certainly see a performance increase....to say the least.

*sidenote* The CM Storm Scout case was really nice to work with for a mid-size case. Decent wire management, really good airflow, and well laid-out. Nice little case for anyone who wants a mid sized tower. I'll take a couple of pics tonight when I pull it back out of the box.

Any thoughts, tips, I am looking at the ASUS boards and fixing to pull the trigger on an i7 build with some similarities to your build.

Will probably go with a single amd card and crossfire it in the next year or so. Not opposed to NVIDIA but have been very happy with my 4870

If you do consider NVidia, do NOT get the 460's. They work great, but I cannot get drivers newer than 267 to install correctly. They do not detect the video card...

Actually, based upon several benchmarks I've seen, on higher resolutions, AMD leads Nvidia.

I've had no such issues with my 460's. I just had to roll back the newest drivers due to artifacting, but the cards have been recognized with every set of drivers I've installed.

Have you tried uninstalling drivers, booting into Safe Mode, running Driver Sweeper (or equivalent), rebooting, and then installing the latest drivers?

Sorry for perpetuating the thread derail, dex. By the way, overclock that 2500k and your dad will be shitting even more horsepower!

Nothing but good things to say about the board. Nicely laid-out, and you can tell the art department put some time into the heat sinks...very cool looking. ASUS has changed their BIOS GUI, and the new one is slick and clean looking.

I guess the only thing I didn't like about the board was that it isn't supported by the ASUS AI SUITE.....mine is, and I use it all the time. Other than that, great board to work with.
